Adobe Unfurls CreatePDF App for iPad And iPhone

September 7, 2011 0

New York — Being able to accurately create and view PDFs has become an essential requirement for business and personal life, and to make the task easier, popular digital media creation and editing software manufacturer, Adobe Inc. has pushed aside its rocky relationship with Apple by releasing its popular PDF conversion technique to the iOS users, by the way of CreatePDF, enabling you to create PDFs using the same technology as Adobe Acrobat.

Simply put, the app would empower the users of the iPad, iPhone or the iPod Touch to create PDF format files from scratch on your and according to Adobe it “brings the same high-quality PDF creation as Adobe Acrobat to your iOS devices itself”.

Release of this novel application indicates that users will get high-quality, high-fidelity PDF conversion for all their e-mail attachments, documents in the Cloud or files from any other application every time.

Addressing a media briefing in Sydney, Adobe Systems’ director of solution consulting for the Asia Pacific region, Mark Szulc, expressed that the move was meant to create uniformity across the mobile market.

Besides, after around 10 million downloads of its Reader app for Android, Szulc stated that delivering an assortment of access options was very significant for the company to move forward.

“Being the developer of a PDF should mean that you should not have to worry about which application your companion are opening a PDF on, and we have taken the same approach towards the mobile market.”

Adobe mentions that using CreatePDF app, iOS users will be able to create PDF format files out of Microsoft Office, Open Office, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign files, and images, as well. The app capitalizes from Adobe’s online services to generate your document, which means there is no dependence on the device it is installed on or the capacity available. The service does not retain a copy of your document once conversion is completed.

However, it is also being stated that the output quality of the CreatePDF-enabled PDF files appears precisely as that of the Acrobat-enabled, desktop PDF files, simply by employing the same concept as Adobe Acrobat. While doing so, it does not store a copy of your converted file, thereby lending a thought to security.

Here is how you begin with CreatePDF:

When converting MS-office files, apparently with links, headers and footers, CreatePDF claims to retain all of those in the PDF file. It is also being stated that sharing PDF files using CreatePDF is pretty effortless, too and it happens with a single touch, adds Adobe.

The following file formats are supported: Almost any common file format can be converted, including those created by MS Word (docx, doc), Excel (xlsx, xls), PowerPoint (pptx, ppt) Adobe Illustrator (ai), Photoshop (psd) and InDesign (indd) JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIFF-RTF, Text and Corel, WordPerfect, OpenOffice and StarOffice documents.

Conversion happening…

And furthermore as it is coming from Adobe, there should be quality controls that can be counted upon. Links, end notes, foot notes and presentation transitions should all remain once your document is converted.

However, because of its dependence on the online service, you will require an active Internet connection (through your data plan or WiFi) in order to perform a conversion.

Apart from keeping its standard in the market, Adobe has partnered with Microsoft and Google on PDF security, with Acrobat’s business manager for the Australia and New Zealand region, Richard Barrie, saying that such partnerships have been vital to securing content for its users.

“Even though we are strange bed fellows, Adobe, Microsoft and Google, cooperated on Protected View, which came out with Acrobat 10,” Barrie said.

“We do have some Acrobat services where you can subscribe to Acrobat but when it comes to work flow, a lot of people are trying to make things paperless and have a digital signature,” he said.

“…With signatures, its the wave of the pen and the fastness of the strokes that determine if its a fake signature… EcoSign as of last month is a part of what we are doing,” he added.

The app is currently available for download on the App store for $9.99.It is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (3rd generation), the iPod touch (4th generation) and the iPad. CreatePDF for iOS requires iOS 4.3 or later. Alternatively, those who wish to download the app, can do so by clicking here.
