Adobe has been working hard to disrupt the successful trending of its Flash-based animation franchise and successfully planted the seeds for the cause. Adobe on Monday released a new application’s preview version which was named Adobe Edge. This application has been designed to assemble vital Web Content. HTML5 would be used and additionally a few open Web standards which are related to HTML5 would be brought into use. Devin Fernandez, Product Manager of the Adobe Group said that Adobe Edge is a tool for designers which is an interactive and motion tool. This would be helpful for those designers who prefer using Web Standards to come up with Web content which would be interactive in nature.

There is an estimation from Adobe that 99% of PCs have a need to run Flash files in today’s world. However for Web designers, its compulsory to have it on their PCs, laptops, etc. Traditionally, if the Web Designers wanted to add in interactive or snazzy animated content to one’s Web Page, then the options available were Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash or similar tools. This would present the Web Page with banner advertisements, short videos interactive charts, etc.

Adobe anf other flash player makers of late have been facing competition from even browsers who come up with their own Flash Players, which eliminates the need for a Flash Player plug-in. HTML5 has however been the talk of the town and it just added to Adobe’s list of criticism. Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, adding to the pressure criticized Flash for the reasons that it was quite a bug. He even urged to root for HTML5 as for an alternative.

Fernandez admitted that many users were preferring to switch over to Web standards for their Flash files. Positively, they saw an opportunity to work on and came up with something which would help the people to be able to take advantage of HTML5. Talking about the tool, HTML page can get a direct insertion of animated Web content and for the cause one would have to use Javascript, CSS and HTML5.

Adobe Edge however has a similar approach to the authoring tool of Flash. Edge allows a developer to make changes in the attribute of an HTML element or a specific image. There are a few length of time which are already set and gives an animated feel to the Web page.

Al Hilwa, development analyst for IDC applications, commented that Adobe has the potential to change as per the changing trends and have proved that they still can top the tools vendor list. He said that only a few companies have been able to twist and turn their procedures as per the sensibilities and needs of a designer and Adobe promises to be one of them. Adobe has retained their code’s integrity and at the same time have come up with an introduction for HTML5 based tool for Flash users.

Fernandez however said that Edge would not be entirely in for every need, but its best use would be when a user uses it for gaming or high-end videos. He claimed that the company is of the view that Flash and HTML5 would be co-existing in the future to come and that is the reason because of which the solutions are being worked on both the superiorities at Adobe. It would still be the user’s decision to use their preferred technology.

A free download of the previewed edition is available and the paid actual full version is expected to be out for both Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows computers sometime in 2012.
