90 MILLION+ FOR GOOGLE+, BUT EARNINGS DESCEND

January 23, 2012 0

Google+ is Google’s social baby and the search engine giant is working on every integration to make it popular in every aspect. The recent news about Google+ is that Google CEO Larry Page said during the company’s earnings presentation on Thursday that the social network has attracted more than 90 million sign-ups since July 2011. However, this achievement has seen a number of sacrifices from Google’s other products and revenue on the whole. Google revenue has been quite disappointing, as the main focus for quite some time has been on Google+, which does not generate revenue as of now.

Talking about the growth of Google+, last noted registered user count was 40 million, reported by Google in October. In a quarter’s time, the social network has grown tremendously, moving up to more than double, currently counting more than 90 million. For the engagement too, the marking of activeness can be known as more than 60 percent of users are on Google+ daily, and more than 80 percent weekly.

The growth has even been noted as Google+ Pages count to more than a million, while the photographs shared on the social network is in excess of 3.4 billion.

Comparing these stats to those of Facebook, according to Facebook’s public statements, Facebook took about four years to reach 90 million users. Facebook actually started as a students-only service, but today it is a social networking giant, wherein 800 million people are checking their accounts at least once a month. This count is about 10 times that of Google+.

Facebook, however, has not been conversational in the tactics used by Google to gain popularity for Google+. But another rival social network, Twitter has already been opposing the tactics being used by Google to promote Google+, with the latest changes to Google search favoring Google+. The main concern was that the new Google Search UI could harm Twitter’s rankings on results pages. That is true to some extent, as users of other Google product users would even meet a Google+ link up somewhere or the other.
