New AdWords Capability Gets More Sweetened With Mobile Targeting Options

January 19, 2012 0

Mountain View, California — According to a poll conducted recently claims that by 2015, more than 4 billion dollars will be spend on mobile advertising. In an attempt to keep pace with the growing demand of the service, Google introduced a couple of new advanced targeting options for its cash-cow AdWords mobile advertisers that are now available in their AdWords campaign settings, namely WiFi targeting, and targeting by mobile operating system version.

Already, advertisers could run mobile campaigns, target tablets, and target specific cell phone service providers and operating platforms. Now with WiFi Targeting, advertisers are able to pitch their campaigns to mobile users specifically on a WiFi connection. Besides, if they are currently targeting users on specific mobile carriers, they can now target users on WiFi connections too, as well as specific cell phone operating systems, and expand their reach.

“To reach users when you know they will have a high speed connection, you will now be able to target your campaigns to mobile users specifically on a WiFi connection,” says Google Mobile Ads product manager Morgan Hallmon. This is also useful if your campaign or landing page has high bandwidth content, like videos that you would like mobile users to access, he added.

The new features will allow advertisers to target to specific versions of operating systems, to ensure the ads are going to the right users. For instance, users can specify whether they would like to reach Android, iOS or WebOS devices with their ads. Google is now offering them even more granular targeting options if their application or service is only applicable to particular platform versions, such as ‘iOS version 4.0 and above’.

The more granular the targeting, the better. Because audience in mobile genre makes up a large portion of many businesses’ potential customer bases, and an easy way to reach them is through mobile advertising. Besides, as many people use their cell phones to find out what is going on around them and to search for particular services they can find while on the go, the mobile audience is ever-growing.

Google’s new features is released at a time when use of mobile devices, including tablets, is growing tremendously. The new targeting options can be found under Campaign Settings.
