Google Enhances Offline Gmail Accessibility For Chrome

January 13, 2012 0

Mountain View, California — In a relentless attempt to keep its visitors engaged with its products and services, global search engine titan Google has launched an enhanced version of its offline Gmail web hugely popular app for Chrome that enables you to access your Gmail account even when you are offline.

The excellent feature of this bunch is the ability to select just how many days of email you would like to synchronize for offline viewing, which range from one week, two weeks, and all the way to 31 days. This feature does seem to come in handy if you plan to take a long trip to a place where there is no Wi-Fi connection, or if you happen to be on a long flight and yet want to retrieve your email so that you can continue with your work without having to spend more and subscribe to inflight Wi-Fi.

Furthermore, all attachments will now be downloaded so you will have access to them offline as well. Additionally, the Google team has made some performance enhancements that does not make using the offline app feel like such a chore anymore:

  • Improved Attachments: All attachments are now downloaded and available for offline use.

  • Keyboard Shortcuts Support: If you have keyboard shortcuts enabled in Gmail, your setting will transfer over to the Gmail offline app. If you’re not sure what you can do with keyboard shortcuts, try pressing ‘?’ next time you’re using Gmail or Gmail offline.

  • Numerous Performance Enhancements: Messages and attachments now download at a faster rate and some bugs have been fixed.

Not only that, additional enhancements were thrown into the mix by the Google team, including support for keyboard shortcuts, which will transfer over any previously set shortcuts directly from your Gmail settings. Overall performance has also been enhanced and you will notice that messages and attachments now download at a faster rate.

Finally, if you wish to tinker with the latest enhancement, you can install the Gmail offline app from the Chrome Web Store and you will need to use Google’s Chrome browser.
