GOOGLE+ WITH 400M USERS BY 2012 END? POSSIBLE?

December 28, 2011 0

The year is to end in three days, but with Google, it seems things never come to a standstill. The experts have already started betting on or rather banking on the success notes of Google’s very own social networking site. Paul B. Allen, founder of Ancestry.com, who updates regularly with facts and notes related to Google+, said that according to him, the search engine giant, Google, might be able to rope in 400m+ users on Google+ by the end of2012. That might not be impossible, but to a great extent, it is really difficult. Moreover, unlike many long term goals for Google, this still seems to be rather a short term goal.

Google+ was born in July 2012, and since then, till now it has roped in approximately 60 million. To reach this mark, it took Google+ almost seven months. Again, this stats have been recorded by Paul, who tracks the numbers as Google+’s “unofficial statistician.” So the actual number can still be a bit less.

However, marking these stats as actual, it was even stated that Google Inc is adding 625,000 new users a day to the Google+ social-networking service. For the total count of approx. 60m, Paul noted that the site’s popularity has accelerated in recent weeks, with almost a quarter of its total user base joining in December alone.

Analyzing Paul’s thoughts, posted below are the possibles and the impossibles, which need to be taken into consideration.

The possibles support as below:

  • Google+, when started, was in its beta stage for two months, which had keep the user count to a small number. It was only on an invite-basis.

  • Facebook is an addiction today, but when it started, its activeness was even nominal.

  • If Paul’s count is correct, then with an addition of approx. 625,000+ users everyday to Google+, Google+ can easily achieve the said mark.

  • Google+ activities are on the rise, especially Hangouts. The efforts taken by the search engine giant are enormous.

  • Google, as a brand is too big to achieve the said mark.

  • Users can use their Google accounts to log onto Google+, which makes things quicker and actually possible

However, there are a few points, which call for a standstill on the possibility. They are:

  • Facebook is way ahead on the activeness, which will prevent users from jumping into Google+. Moreover, the social networking giant, Facebook, is incorporating a number of efforts to keep the masses on its social networking site only.

  • Again, the estimates are unofficial, which could mean that the total count and the daily addition of users might be really low.

  • It took Google+ seven months approx. to get to the 60m mark (if that is actually 60m) and expecting that in a span of twelve months, it will rope in 340m+ users.

  • Google+ is at its very best as of now, but one can expect the excitement to drown if the efforts taken by the search engine giant slopes downwards. Getting in users is fine, but getting them on a regular basis can turn out to be a real hassle.

  • Activeness on Google+ is still low.

  • Google, is a big brand, but along with it comes in a number of antitrust lawsuits too, which can turn bad for Google+.

However, the new year might start with a number of plans from Google, which can eliminate a few of these impossibilities, making things look really good for the future of Google+ and linking the success of Google+, Facebook’s future too.
