December 28, 2011 0

The cheap tablet wars have always been on a high in the United States, but since the Indian territory have come up with the cheapest tablet in the world, one could have expected this to get a ‘sold-out’ tag at the earliest. Aakash tablet, the cheapest tablet produced ever is priced at Rs. 2,500 ($50 approx.), while an upgraded version of the same, that is UbiSlate 7 is priced at Rs. 3,000 ($60 approx.).

Earlier this month, bookings started for those who wanted to get their hands on this tablet, and it was expected that they would get it at the end of this year. But recently it was noted that they would not be able to lay their hands on this tablet until the next year, as the units were completely sold out within a week’s time.

The units were made available by DataWind, and was expected to reach the customers within a week, but it took the same amount of time for the tablets to be sold out. Zee News reported that the wait would now be up till January 2012, for them to get their hands on these units.

However, for the eager customers, they can still grab the unit from Ncarry.com, which is offering the Aakash tablet till stocks last. Additionally, the Ubislate 7 is even available for pre-order, the shipping of the same would even start in the next month. The delayed reason of this improved tablet is not yet clear, but one can assume that UbiSlate holds superiority over the Aakash tablet and the makers of the Aakash tablet would not prefer the UbiSlate take over the market, until and unless the Aakash tablet is sold out.

Briefing about these tablets, Aakash tablet has Android 2.2 operating system, Arm 11366 MHz processor, 2100 battery, WiFi and support for a modem. On the other hand, UbiSlate will be powered by Android 2.3 and will have a resistive touchscreen, Cortex A8 700 processor and graphics accelerator HD video processor, 256 MB of RAM and 2 GB of internal memory. Other specifications are one standard USB port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a 7 inch display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, resistive touchscreen, and support.

The thoughts of making such tablets, for commercial use would add to the biggest disadvantage of having a cheap tablets, making the term ‘tablet’ quite common and at the same time degrading the quality of tablets would make many stay away from the term. On the other hand, this can even inspire many to have a tablet and make the best potential use of it.

However, this piece of news notes that the cheapest tablet in the world, has expectedly been sold out in a week’s time and would start shipping, not before January 2012.
