October 19, 2011 0

Software maker Adobe, on Monday, released version 10.1.0 of its Reader software for the iOS platform. The free app allows a user to view and share PDF documents across platforms and devices. A blog post of Apple’s App Store details, “easily and efficiently access the widest range of PDF file types including PDF portfolios, password-protected PDF documents and Adobe LiveCycle rights-managed PDF files. Adobe Reader offers fast, high-quality interaction with PDF.”

With the app which is compatible with the iPod Touch, iPad and the iPhone, you can view PDF files, open PDF files from email, view PDF portfolios and packages and read annotations such as sticky notes.

A user can even open and view password protected PDF files and files secured by Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management and the app supports upto AES 256 encryption.

The app allows the user to search text to find specific information, select single page or continuous scroll mode; zoom in on text or images for a closer view, navigate through large files using thumbnails and select and copy text from a PDF file to the clipboard.

The free to download software will enable a user to print wirelessly with AirPrint, share PDF files with other applications and email PDF documents as attachments.

This is Adobe’s first official version of Reader for iOS devices, the app works with iOS 4.2.5 and later, while Google’s Android OS saw it as early as May 2010.

Adobe’s other software, Flash has not found favor with Apple and it has discouraged the use of Flash on its devices. In 2010, Steve Jobs had alleged that Flash “is closed and proprietary, has major technical drawbacks, doesn’t support touch based devices,” and is third-party software that threatens Apple’s control over its products. It is being speculated that with Tim Cook in charge things could take a turn allowing Flash on Apple products.

The Reader is available in 17 languages, including, French, German, Italian, Dutch and Portugese.
