ONCE’ IN THE PAID APP LIST FOR IPAD

October 15, 2011 0

iPad users might not have a number of apps, which one can use in the iPhone, but still the Apple tablet has a few unique apps being customized specially for iPad. Here is yet another app, tailor made for iPad. Once Magazine, a startup that officially launched its first issue on the App Store in August, has added improvements to the app and the updated app now lets the users to experience photojournalism in a better way.

The app creators are offering a series of curated photo stories, which are uniquely edited and designed specifically for the iPad. the app has an upper hand as compared to other similar apps, as Once has worked with professional photographers and writers for the creation of complete stories. This series would not be just an aggregated clumps of photos from the Web, but would be more than that. Additionally, Once targets people who love photographic stories, but may not be professionals to give their best shot at the stories.

This app however bares similarity with the Life Magazine, which can even be termed as Life Magazine for the tablet age.

Photography might be dying when one looks at print publishing and actual photojournalism, but the socializing of people today note that there are millions of images being uploaded by people to their Facebook and Flickr galleries, Path and Instagram. The demand for engaging and sharable photographic content is on the rise and thus presenting them in a non-snooze-worthy narrative is still alive and kicking.

Once seems hopeful of taking advantage of the new availability of sales data and the shifting consumption habits of readers on the Web to offer a new solution. The reason for the same is that as far as iPad users are concerned, they can till now opt to resort to viewing photo galleries and stories in Safari, while photographers remain fixed to print publications.

The app, when launched in the App Store, it was available for free. But with the latest upgradation, the app makers have added a price tag to it too. The app now has a paid version, which would mean that one can use the unique features of the app as in-app purchases or via a discounted monthly subscription. Per issue cost has been tagged $2.99, while the per month cost would be $1.99.

Once has plans to earn a decent return from the same as Apple would even take away 30 percent of its hard earned income. Those who opt for the paid version, would enjoy the app as to be ad-free, but others who are enjoying the free version, will soon have a reason to be frustrated as the app makers would incorporate ads in the same.

Once, as a team is talented, as they have many who have previously worked at Wired, Getty Images, McSweeney’s, and Mother Jones, one can note the team is a bunch of publishing experienced people.
