Bing Preps To Launch Another Bing Deals Offering

October 11, 2011 0

Redmond, Washington — In its relentless quest to capture the deals domain, Microsoft’s Bing has put considerable effort in the past several months into ramping up its deals content with variety of options. And now the internet’s most popular news site TechCrunch has just noticed what apparently is a new offering from Bing, “Bing Deals”.

This is a separate offering than the Bing Deals accumulation site we covered about last month. It is a more “conventional,” email-based daily deal offering vs. the company’s earlier deal products and efforts.

While they both are dubbed as “Bing Deals”, although the aggregation site is at www.bing.com/deals, and this new offering is being powered by Tippr, another deals vendor that has found success with its white label platform, according to TechCrunch, is at www.Bing.com/daily-deals.

The new site is live now, and in order to receive the Bing Deals offerings via emails, users must complete the registration process by signing into a Windows Live or Facebook account. It is not clear whether there is any intended personalization behind the scenes–or whether deal purchases will be exposed through the Facebook news feed or Ticker.

Once logged in users will immediately get a welcoming email:

Welcome to Bing Deals!

Nice work signing up for Seattle Bing Deals! We pride ourselves on being able to bring you the best that your city has to offer, so keep an eye out for some fantastic offers.

Here is how this works:

  • We will e-mail you a new deal every day from a great local business. You can also search for these at Bing.com or visit us at Bing.com/daily-deals.

  • When you like a deal, purchase it using either your Windows Live ID or Facebook account and we will send you an e-mail with a link to your voucher once the deal is over.

  • Redeem your voucher (either printed or over mobile) at the local business and enjoy your experience.

Invite your friends!

Bing Deals gets better with friends. And we know you will love what we have to offer, so we have made it easy to share this with your friends and family. Simply head over to the Invite a Friend page to get started!

Sincerely,

Bing Deals

The consumer pitch for Bing Deals is pretty similar as that being offered by scores of other deal providers: local business services at 50% to 90% off. And in respects this is a conventional offering–the earlier search-oriented Bing deals sites were more “progressive”–however there is an interesting charitable angle that Microsoft hopes will build viral momentum.

The program has just started but appears to be available in 12 US cities so far, apparently (Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Honolulu, Los Angeles, “Southern Oregon”, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle).
