PHOTOSHOP TOUCH FOR TABLET: ADOBE

October 4, 2011 0

Adobe is yet again working hard to gain the confidence of the ‘tablet world’, with its new touchscreen optimized apps for tablets. Adobe announced that it would come up with six such apps, which would even include Adobe Photoshop Touch for Android. Adobe Photoshop Touch is a touch app which are tablet-specific. For its availability, the Android update will come in November, while the iPad owners will have to wait till early 2012 for an iOS update of the same.

Adobe, earlier even had the Adobe Photoshop Express which had a few selected options for a user, restricting the user to minimal control over the app. It was basically a photo editor, which nowhere near of being called an Photoshop app or even Photoshop Lite.

Adobe has finally rolled out something for the tablet-wielding photo enthusiasts. Photoshop Touch has a number of options for the users, which even includes combining photos into layered images and making use of finger gestures is even possible, which would help the users in controlling familiar Photoshop tools and effects. To help the users understand its working, there are a couple of built-in tutorials.

The app would be sold for $10, which means one cannot expect a full-fledged version of Photoshop in it. However, as a tablet app, it works fine and on its part, Adobe has put together a great tool which makes good use of the touchscreen interface. At the same time, keeping in mind the connected nature of tablets, one can easily share these photos on social networking sites like Facebook. For sharing purpose, one can even make use of the new Adobe Creative Cloud hub which was even announced by the company at the same time. This option is for viewing, sharing, and syncing images among your various computing devices.

To select an image, a user can choose a photo from their photo album on the tablet or can even download an image from the Creative Cloud. Again, one can even click images from their cameras. There is even an option that the users can download an image from Facebook or Google. Here, the download option from Google is useful particularly as one can use advance search options such as looking out for images by keywords and/or by color, and even by copyright usage rights. This in fact allows users to quickly and easily select images you can reuse commercially and/or reuse with modification.

After selecting an image, a user gets access to a number of tolls they would be familiar with (if they have used Photoshop on their desktops or laptops). The twist is only that the users will be able to touch those tools with their fingers or stylus. The procedure is simple as one can edit an image and accordingly even apply various adjustments and effects.

An interesting point to note here is that there are many options which are tablet-specific enhancements, such as the Scribble Selection Tool. This tool allows a user to extract objects from their image, which can be done by merely scribbling on what to keep and what to remove.

Talking about the other announced touchscreen enabled apps, the detailing of those were noted as below:
