PANDA UPDATE: NEW WINNERS AND LOSERS

October 3, 2011 0

Google Panda has an update yet again, and with it is the new list of winners and losers even up for display. Panda update has been one of Google’s algorithm changes, wherein it approximately carries out 500 such changes on a yearly basis.

Panda update is different and at the same time much important for the websites, as it has a much bigger impact on a site’s traffic. The other 499 changes do not cause a real major difference, but Panda does. An instance for the same can be noted as Dani Horowitz from Daniweb, was asked about her Panda problem, she said that her IT discussion community was struck badly because of the Panda update.

Daniweb saw a decline on her traffic count yet again, which could have ruined all her hard work for her site, as early in the week Panda “2.5” took away more than half of Daniweb’s traffic overnight. This was not the first time Panda update had hit her site traffic. Earlier this year, she was in the Panda update loser list and after working hard on it she had a 110% recovery, which is an achievement, not many have been able to get through with. But with this new update, it seems she will have to start over all again.

However, there are many victims like Daniweb who have noticed a fall in their web traffic because of these Panda update. SearchMetrics has been quite regular in releasing data about Panda winners and losers throughout the year. It has compiled an update yet again and the biggest losers can be notified as in the image below:

The losers list seems to be notable for a few ‘in demand’ sites such as PRNewsire, BusinessWire, Today.com and TheNextWeb. Like in the case of Daniweb, PRNewsire has been victimized yet again. In the past, EzineArticles and Demand Media’s eHow have been amongst the biggest losers on the list and this time there are no signs of these sites on the loser list. it seems like the recovery from their end has been appreciably on a high scale.

Like the loser list, the winner list is even quite interesting. The winner list is as below:

Google services such as Android.com and YouTube being in the topper list, is not a surprise yet again. It does not signify that Google is being partial for its services, but one can surely draw from it that Google will be in talks for its services topping the list. Apart from the Google services being on the list, one can notice that the list has been dominated majorly by the big brands.

HubPages is on the winners list this time, which was on the loser list last time the update was rolled out. But after looking at the case of Daniweb, their happiness can even be short-lived.

Google Panda update has been one of the most effective tools, which has been affecting a number of sites. The effect might be positive or negative, but it is still affecting a number of websites.
