Bing has been updated majorly on the web and now the updates are flowing in for Bing for Mobile Browse (m.bing.com), which is the Bing version for tablet and smartphone browsers. The new features added are information about movies, a new video section, and the addition of Facebook “likes” to Bing’s search results pages.
The entertainment section has been in the Bing focus list for quite some time now and this has a new extension with Bing including movie data. A Bing user can now check out show times, ratings and what’s in theaters. The uniqueness about this feature is that one can even watch the trailer then and there so that there would be a better thought process as to would they want to go for a movie or no. But if the confusion still persists, there is even an option which is integrated to Facebook, so that one can ask for or even give recommendations.
Again, Microsoft’s search engine has had an addition of a new video section, which according to their blog post, would bring in to make up a compilation of millions of videos from all over the web. The sources even include Hulu, MSN and YouTube. It could be an easy viewing for the users as they can view all directly from their mobile devices. Bing has even included a special dedicated tab which is for the sports fans as they can look out for MLB, NBA, and NHL video collections.
Earlier this year, Bing had added a new feature, which had been attractive enough to have a better impact as Facebook ‘likes’ were integrated for the mobile search engine results page. This feature again had passed the ‘uniqueness’ bar as it signified that if a Facebook like is there for a search result, it has been liked by one’s friends on Facebook. Moreover, the mobile browser would even show the faces of the faces of up to three friends who recommended the source.
The partnership between Bing and Facebook is a representation of one of the search engine’s most iconic elements and easy-to-note advantages. This is even because the social networking giant is yet to partner other major search engines. This would leave Google’s social search features to fly without the largest social network on the planet. This point can be noted as Google+ has not yet taken off and a possibility of it competing on the activeness factor with Facebook would be a real challenge.
Talking about the search engine wars, Bing has tried to hit around with many unique tactics to improve its popularity amongst the searchers, but it has really not been that effective. Since the last year, in the U.S. search market share, Bing had seen an improvement which was a significant bite out of Google’s search market share. The new additions made now are yet again an attempt to have more searchers using Bing and if not many searchers come to Bing, there is still a possibility that the movie fanatics might root in for Bing via their mobile devices for easier and quicker access for movie details.
However, one can try out the new features on their own by visiting http://m.bing.com/ from their mobile devices.
