APPLE FANS REJOICE ADOBE CAROUSEL

September 12, 2011 0

When Adobe made a note of the the pain points users face with their photo sharing, it generated a few discussions in regards to a cloud solution which was kind off expected. But now, we see Adobe coming out with this and its named Adobe Carousel. Adobe Carousel takes up tasks such as uploading, storing and syncing photos automatically from one’s Apple device. One can even create sharable Carousels (galleries). Expectedly, one can after sharing even apply special effects and edit the photos nondestructively. Some were of the thought that the name Carousel has an inspiration from Kodak Carousel slide projector which was denied by Adobe PR.

Talking about Adobe Carousel, one can say that the on the surface, it sounds neat and has set goals which are solid enough to make the users happy. This is because people have a demand to get access to photo libraries everywhere they go so that they can browse, adjust, and share their photos with family and friends. They are even simple and easy to setup.

There is no doubt that Adobe Carousel is good, but comparing it with Photoshop.com, it can be seen that most of the needs are fulfilled by Photoshop.com. A major disadvantage Adobe carries here is that it is Flash based which makes it difficult for Adobe to leverage the site. Adobe even stated that there was no need for the team to start from scratch for building up Carousel. The reason here is that the backend of Photoshop.com provides some of the infrastructure, which is required for supporting the digital imaging mesh which is used by Adobe Carousel. Adobe added that Photoshop.com even has a few limitations, noting which the DI mesh platform was developed by Adobe.

Setting up of Carousel is easy as one can just download the app to their PCs, laptops and mobile devices and set up a subscription plan on the device. Once a user has subscribed, he/she can have an unlimited number of imports of JPEG images. Multi-touch gesture is one good feature of this app. Users can edit photos with the exposure, shadows, highlights, white balance, vibrant options, clarity and contrast of their photos. The social network looping is even kept in consideration for the app as one can easily send them to Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr or via email directly.

For the basics, Carousel functions a bit like any other photo organizer as it stores an image database of one’s choice as they are imported. The database gets synced automatically across devices. The process is however good as once a user imports their photo library in Carousel, or a new photo is clicked in via an iOS device, the accessibility of these photos is possible automatically on any other device which is supported via the cloud-based mesh technology incorporated in Adobe Carousel.

Adobe Carousel as of now is out only for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and Mac OS desktops, while the versions for Windows and other devices are expected in the first half of 2012. This app would be seen in the App store later this month and for the introductory price, it would be offered for US$ 59.99/year or US$ 5.99/month. If one subscribes at this introductory price, they will be allowed to have a renewal at the same price for an additional two years. After this offer expires on January 31, 2012, the price would be US$ 99.99/year or US$ 9.99/month.
