Search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and others have had a fight to claim supremo, but barring this fight out, Quixey, an app search engine has grown to raise $3.8 million in Series A funding. Quixey’s development and further growth will definitely get a boost with this investment. The investors had co-leaders in the names of U.S. Venture Partners and WI Harper Group and a participation and follow-up investment was made by Webb Investment Network and Innovation Endeavors respectively. For a bit of Quixey background, Quixey is a functional search engine for apps, which allows users in finding apps by providing a description of what they want to do.
Functional search is the new type of search which has been invented by Quixey, which is designed and programmed for apps specifically. This functional search does a scanning of social media sites, forums, review sites and blogs which would help a user in learning in detail as to what a app has the potential to do. Quixey is a hub for those who are looking out for apps for their devices, because the site has a collection of data which run into hundreds for each and every individual app. The platform again is not restricted for an app search by Quixey as it has an inclusion of browser, desktop, web and mobile apps.
Fundamentally, there is a difference of any search engine with Quixey as usually any search engine has a requirement for a user to have knowledge of an app name or detail an official description so that the right app is found out. With Quixey, a user is at ease because Quixey has detailed info-base of the functionality of an app. Users can just answer the question, “What do you want to do?” and a defined search would be on for them.
Quixey has successfully come up with the development of a new business model based which has been rooted by the formation of partnerships, powering app search. CEO and Co-Founder of Quixey, Tomer Kagan said that apps are developed for the betterment of an individual and the latest funding for the company would just help in bridging the gap which has always existed between technology and people. He continued saying, “Quixey is working with companies throughout the world to ensure that their users can finally access what technology has to offer.”
The approach for Quixey can be termed as to be revolutionary. General Partner at USVP, Steve Krausz even said that their partnering with Quixey is exciting for them and that the market for app discovery is in demand. Moreover, the approach of Quixey is different for one’s app discovery. He even said, “Their team is extremely talented and has the best approach to app search and leveraging app data.”
to add in, the Managing Director of WI Harper Group, David Lam stated that apps have been of great functionality for the smartphones and tablet users in the post-PC era. The app search by Quixey is innovative enough for a user to have a search which can be customized accurately bringing the required solution to many a users.
Quixey even faces competition from companies such as Appsfire, who raised $3.6 million in May and Chomp which is an app recommendation service managed to pull in $2 million in March. The boom boom app market is growing and it has been expected that by 2015, mobile apps alone wouldbring in $37 billion.
