GOOGLE EXTENDS SITELINKS

August 23, 2011 0

Search engine result page element, Google sitelinks has been pushed forward with an extension for showcasing major webpages’ popular sub-pages. It would therefore mean that the size and number of the sitelinks are on the rise.

Earlier, there was a discussion as to how the expanded sitelinks had been of effect for the searches which had an appearance made all over the world. The only exception in this case was North America. The recent announcement notes that Google has officially made it an inclusion for everyone and the users would find support of each and every supportive language. The requirement here would be the usage of a modern browser which should be IE 7 or better, Firefox or Chrome. These browser users would be able to use it sitelinks in the expanded format which could be looked on for the branded searches.

This expanded sitelinks make things much more than just convenient as there are not only the titles of a sub-pages (which was integrated earlier), but even give a snippet of the meta description. Google provides the extended version of sitelinks only when it is sure that the googler is looking out for a defined specific site. In case, Google is not sure, then one would only see the limited version of sitelinks. Google’s official statement detailed this theory with an example which was, “[museum of art nyc] shows more sitelinks than [the met] because we’re more certain you want results from www.metmuseum.org.” the maximum limit set here is for 12 sitelinks.

One can have a look at a quick sample as a screenshot posted below:

This would be an added advantage to those pages which have been well ranked as one can just go by the snippet provided in the sitelinks. This would even save time of a user as they would not have to scroll down for an entry of the site which is posted as a lower entry, below the actual links. The count for 12 in the sitelinks is even accurately added because usually a site would not have more than 12 sub pages.

This extended version of sitelinks would even be helpful for the competitors of the preferred search as the sitelinks would consume 1/8th of the actual space it would have consumed earlier before the sitelinks. This would let the user view the competitors even who would be wide and in view. This is one of the points which have been posted as a concern by the webmasters.

The other concern for the webmasters was that the algorithm of Google shows the snippet in the sitelins which is as a narrow array of searches. This is however even looked on with an angle that it would have a user benefit as the prediction of Google stands on a basis that the user has a target site on their search and if accurate, then they would have a quicker access to the site’s important elements.

Meta descriptions and titles would now be of much more importance which is a point worth noting. The optimization of the said aspects for the space provided would even be a point to think of as a googler.
