‘CHILD ID’ APP FOR IPHONE RELEASED BY FBI

August 8, 2011 0

iPhone users will not have access to yet another unique App, but this one has been released by the FBI. This iPhone app is out in relation to child ID. This App is designed so that the authorities can be notified by the parents in case their child goes missing. This app can be downloaded for free and there would be no paid versions for it. This App is basically available only for iPhone, but iPad and Ipod Touch would even get the required support in the ‘near future’.

The app can be used by the parents to store information relating to their kids and even click a picture of the kids with the help of the application directly. Parents can store individual data of each and every child separately. In the app, one can find several fields which can be filled in by the parents relating to their kids such as name, ethnicity, date of birth, address, nicknames and other detailed information which would help in “identifying characteristics”.

The detailing process might be long and time consuming, but once its all over, the app stores the data on the iPhone. If an unlikely event occurs and one’s child goes missing, the parents need to just use the Send button which would direct the app to e-mail the details to the authorities. The app however has no e-mail address mentioned which would mean that the parent would have to collect any e-mail address which is relevant.

The procedure is even detailed as to how the parent has to go about in case of any unlikely event. The emphasis is made by the parent to first call to 911. This call can be made with the help of this app. The app even has provision for the parents to make a call to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, which can be done with the help of a button placed in the app for it. However one can even call 800 THE LOST—800-853-5678.

There were many questions raised earlier on relating to the security of these details. Relating to the concerning issue, an FBI poster said that the parents need to be rest assured that none of their information or that of their children would be stored or collected by iTunes or FBI. It was an important disclosure because people were worried about the security of the information they list on via this app. One of these concerns were even relating to immigration. However many such issue added to the reluctance of the people, who wanted to detail themselves and their children on this app.

In this app, one can even find a link which would take them to the National Child Identification Program kit which would allow the parents to even collect fingerprints and DNA samples. There are many safety tips which are even included in the app. This tips can be used by the parents as the first few steps after any such unlikely event.

This is a unique app which can be used as there have been many cases reported every here relating to the concerned problem. This app would might not be used on a large scale, but if any such parents come across any such unlikely event relating to their children, then it would surely ease the matter for the parents.
