HEALTHFULLY YOURS; FROM GOOGLE TO MICROSOFT

July 19, 2011 0

Monday saw yet again a step from the software giant to take on its rivalry to another level against the search engine giant. HealthVault recently was offered by Microsoft which would help as a care center. This new extension would relate to those medical records which are kept in a digital form at the Google’s Health service which is dying. Last month Google had announced that the Health service which was launched in 2008, would be pulled out. This service was free of cost and there was no real growth since the launch of this service.

Nate McLemore blogged a post that Microsoft has been continuing its growth at HealthVault. Nate McLemore is a general manager at Microsoft’s Health Solutions Group and showed his confidence in the Health Solutions Group. McLemore added that Google has been user friendly for customers who can get access to their tools and data. This service helped Google’s Health service providers with better online care management for themselves and their loved ones.

Microsoft has provided details with which Google health records could be shifted over and this shift would be via encrypted files. This also means that the transfer would be keep private and the privacy issues in regards to one’s information would be protected. The detailing again showed that it was quite a simple way to move over to HealthVault.

Google’s announcement notified that the company would close down its service on January 1, 2013. this would mean that the medical records which are of personal nature would not be stored or shared anymore. However it would be possible for the user to get hold of they information by downloading them till 2012 ends. This was stated by the California firm.

HealthVault was launched from the Microsoft’s warehouse in 2007 in October. This was an online storage service which was to keep medical records. It is a free service and it helps the users to store and manage their data safely and avoiding any data from getting snooped. This health related service helps people to stock their records which includes medical history, vaccinations, blood tests, etc. One can access control over a selected data portion which can be viewed by health-care providers.

The below mentioned extract is from Microsoft:

A Google Health account holder who wants to transfer his or her personal health information to HealthVault can start by selecting the “Send profile to another service” option on the Download menu in Google Health. Google Health will then send his or her Google Health profile directly to HealthVault as an encrypted message using the Direct Project messaging protocols. Users will receive confirmation in Google Health that their profile was sent, and then an email explaining how to create a HealthVault account and complete the data transfer. Complete instructions for using this method, as well as an alternative manual method, can be found here.
