San Francisco — Are you annoyed of sending an important emails to the wrong person, especially when you have contacts that have identical identities (i.e. boss named Bob and a separate friend named Bob), and do you often forget to include certain people in your email? Well, now you can take a sigh of relief as search engine behemoth Google has just announced the addition of some nifty features to Gmail to make life easier for you.
The features, dubbed as “Don’t forget Bob” and “Got the wrong Bob?” have been in beta testing for awhile now in Gmail Labs, and have finally made the transition into Gmail for everyone.
In a blog post today, Google affirmed that it is promoting two features, dubbed as “Don’t forget Bob” and “Got the wrong Bob?”, out of its experimental Google Labs area. So if you are a Gmail user, do not be surprised when the webmail application starts suggesting who you should be sending your messages to.
Don’t forget Bob:
From now onwards, whenever you compose the message, this unique feature will automatically recommend to you the list of recipients for your e-mail based on the people you frequently communicate. The feature suggests people you might want to include based on your most contacted groups of people. The feature appears when you enter at least two recipients.
For instance, if you regularly e-mail your mother, father, and sister together, then the next time you start composing a message to your parents, Gmail will suggest you add your sister, too. A similar example works for work-related groups. Once you click on a suggested name, that person will get added to your e-mail.
Got the wrong Bob?
Furthermore to recommending people you might have forgotten, Gmail also helps you to check whether you are sending the mails to right person so you do not mistakenly send mails to Bob your boss instead of Bob your friend. The Got the wrong Bob? feature can be a life-saver and spare you some embarrassment.
Moreover, the feature is based on groups of people you most often communicate, so Gmail will try to figure out if you have accidentally included the wrong person in the recipients list (before it is too late).
For instance, if you usually e-mail a group of friends, and one of them has an identical name as your boss (and you typed it in by mistake), Gmail will warn you that you might be making a mistake. This feature, like Don’t forget Bob, appears when you add more than two people to your recipients list.
Both the features are pretty cool and make sure that nobody is left out and you do not get in trouble for emailing the wrong people. It should be done rolling out to all Gmail accounts by now, if not give it another day or two.
