World’s leading online e-commerce portal has announced plans to collaborate with leading Internet photo service Shutterfly. The web-based service is planning to enter the growing market of online photo developing services and plans to provide these facilities on their webstore, which sells anything, and everything on the Internet.
Shutterfly is basically a privately held company and competes on the Internet with global giants like Eastman Kodak, Hewlett-Packard and many other retailers offering similar photo developing services on the Internet. The deal also highlights the efforts Amazon is making to expand their range of services. The company had started with book dealings on the net and is today the largest online retailers in the world.
The companies have not disclosed their collaboration details. However, Amazon has of course clarified that they would be offering services like developing photographs in sizes ranging from wallet-size to 20" by 30" pictures, online photo sharing and "design-it-yourself" photo cards, calendars and gifts, such as mugs, t-shirts and other personalized products."
The deal comes as Amazon, which started off as an online bookseller, has looked to expand its presence in digital media. Last month, the company bought DVD on demand site Custom-Flix and is reported considering getting into the music download business. The Seattle-based company also recently began offering its Amazon Shorts service, which allows consumers to download short stories from best-selling authors such as romance author Danielle Steel.
The Seattle-based online retailer launched a co-branded website with the Redwood City, Calif.-based service provider, and also began offering Shutterfly products on its homepage and the Amazon.com electronics store.
