Google Spruces Up Shopping Tools In Time For The Holidays

November 14, 2012 0

Mountain View, California — Well, everyone loves to buy a perfect gift, while fighting crowds for the best prices. In order to make your shopping a stress-free occasion, Google is gearing up for the holiday season by adding a bevy of features to its premier shopping products. The Google Shopping team announced today their incredible new tools with the addition of two new features: 360-degree product view and shortlists, which will help holiday shopping become stress-free.

In an attempt to deliver more comfort to its online shopper’s, the companys’ web-based Shopping search tool has received a number of tweaks, and the most visually arresting change is certainly the addition of 360-degree interactive images, including reviews from friends and discount tracking.

With these updates, shoppers can effortlessly enjoy a more dynamic variety of virtual window shopping, getting a closer peek at products before buying them. The addition of social networking-like tools allows you to share the experience with friends and family, as well.

First up, the 360-degree product view allows users to pull up a larger image of a toy and see it from all angles using grab-and-swivel. The product spins smoothly, and is in addition to a variety of pictures for the product, which give you a view of the top and bottom as well. Not all products have 360-degree swivel, however, so do not get your hopes up about seeing crockpots in 360-degree goodness.

Among other things is the addition of Shortlists to Google Shopping, which give the shopping experience a social-networking kind of feel. In fact, just by clicking a button next to a product that says “Add to Shortlists,” consumers can bookmark the item and then compare product features on Google Shopping and other sites across the Web before making a purchase. Users can then share the shortlist with their family or friends for a collaborative shopping experience.

Moreover, consumers can also create a shortlist by moving over to the Google Shopping Shortlists page, where you will be presented with a red button titled “Create a Shortlist.” Click the button, enter a name for the list, then click “Add a Product” and enter a search term or URL. Once a product is added, you can then attach a note to it.

Nevertheless, the painfully cheesy video demoes how Shortlists can help a couple work together to pick a wedding gift for a friend. It is hardly Earth shattering, but it is definitely a well implemented tool and you are not limited to items found through Google Shopping.
