As you can see in the screenshots below, the tabs at the top for News, Images, Places, etc. have been replaced by a menu button. Also, the latest version of the search engine’s on-the-go layout includes a large menu of various Google services.
More so, the new design has been seen on both iOS and Android devices. Here is a few shots of it in action:
According to the The Android Soul team noted, “the top bar on Google’s mobile homepage is now pretty similar to desktop’s.” In addition, the top of the screen now simply contains links to web and image search as well as a Google+ notification area and a drop-down to view your full Google profile.
In fact, some visitors to the site have already began noticing the change. Now, when you visit Google.com in your mobile browser, and tapped on the small icon in the left-hand corner of the screen, you will see a sidebar slide-out menu featuring a host of other Google products: Google+, image search, maps, YouTube, and more.
Tapping those icons in turn takes you to the mobile version of the product. Also, after searching for items, the top tab bar has been removed in favor of a scrolling options list directly below the search terms. It matches up quite nicely to the new desktop version of google.com that came earlier in the year, and is a massive improvement over the other dated mobile look.
Although it is not a major revamp by any stretch of the imagination, but it is definitely more refined and makes it easier to access services beyond search – a good feature, since many iOS 6 users are likely visiting Google’s mobile site to access maps a lot more than they used to.
