Google Promises Galaxy Nexus Sales Resuming At Google Play By Next Week

July 6, 2012 0

San Francisco — In case you missed the news, following the confrontation between Samsung and Apple, as the latter was granted an injunction and sales ban on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, which was pulled from the Google Play store recently amidst a patent dispute with Apple, will resume selling by next week after an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, to the device, shipped and ready.

While the event took novel turn, and according to a Google spokeswoman confirming the report said that starting next week this ban will be lifted for the smart device because of a software update which will bring the brand-new version of Android, version 4.1 Jelly Bean to Google Play, but did not revealed an exact date.

The Galaxy Nexus, the first phone in the U.S. to feature Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, will be upgraded to Google’s next-gen mobile OS. In addition to Jelly Bean, Google has also promised a quick and small tweak that will prevent it from being attacked by Apple’s slew of lawyers. The ban was based on Android using unified search (searching across all apps and music) on the device in one easy system — something that makes logical sense yet Apple had patented.

Taking a cue at the issue last week, a California district judge awarded Apple a patent-related injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Apple posted a $96 million bond to have the phone pulled from U.S. shelves, and it was removed from Google Play as well. Should the ruling be transposed in the future, those funds would go to Samsung for the losses it suffered while the Galaxy Nexus was unavailable.

You can distinctly notice the “coming soon” and “notify me” messages in the image above, where Google has stopped sales of their flagship device. There are a few reasons for that however. One is the sales ban brought forth from this ever-growing (and ridiculous) set of Apple lawsuits, and because they will be shipping it later next week with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean instead of Ice Cream Sandwich.

This news comes at the same time as the rest of the legal statements dispatched to the press this week in light of the Apple vs Samsung case. In fact, after the ruling, Samsung said it was “working closely with Google to resolve this matter, as the patent in question concerns Google’s unified search function.”
