Microsoft announced that it will be rolling out new features globally to improve the online video service to the regular search page as well, where search terms containing the keyword “video” will produce results with larger movie previews, an embedded time-length stamp and also, bigger icons.
In addition, the latest update also boasts a larger and more informative video thumbnails when you hover over video results in the search results. They also bundled an infinite scrolling bar to include all relevant videos, related content, a bigger video viewing window, filmstrips and more. Now, you no longer have to click on a video to find out what it is all about–the extensive previews should help you find what you need with a glance.
Here is a screen shot of the preview thumbnails in the Bing search results:
“We have made a significant investment in amplifying our video coverage to provide you with as much relevant content as possible,” they say on a blog post. “Once we accumulate the vast storage of videos, we had to think about how to display the results so they would be easy to use and scan.”
So now, when you search for anything on Bing Videos, you will see more search refinements for related content and a large video viewer and filmstrip as well. Bing has switched over to a new grid layout, that displays several videos at one time on the page. Also, on the search results page within Bing videos, a related search tab at the top is also displayed, allowing you tinker that actually suits you best. Your actual search will always remain the first tab in the bunch.
In fact, Bing’s infinite scroll is very popular feature on their image search, which empowers users to scroll through the search results instead of clicking on “next” for more results. That feature is now on their video results giving users a “quick and easy way to view virtually unlimited videos by simply scrolling down the page,” said Bing.
As you can test by themselves, some of the above enhancements can already be experienced to its fullest, while others are still in an implementation phase. Bing has also added a “filmstrip” to the top that houses related videos. “Above all, the large previews, the videos also received updated treatments, such as 16×9 images, embedded video length time stamps, and icons to help you quickly navigate the results,” says Bing.
Apart from these nifty enhancements, if you are searching for videos will also contain a ‘Trending Video Searches’ section, situated at the bottom, which allows users to see what the most hyped videos of the day are.
