Shibl Mourad, the director of research and development, Google Montreal said that making Chrome social networking friendly is still a research project and hence cannot comment on when the change can be expected.
Google is hence planning to expand the team for this project for which they have also recently renovated their Montreal office. When asked, Mourad said, ‘We’re looking for very, very good developers who are good generalists and can switch to different projects. We change projects every six months. We build something, and then we build something else. We’re always working on the Chrome browser, but within that, there are hundreds of projects’. He also added that the hiring process is very long as they are looking for the best of candidates.
The open house held by Google for the local media on Monday gave an inside look of the renovated office. Giving a fun look to the office, Google has included features like coffee machines, a big cafeteria where food is served for free, a massage room, gym, showers on every floor and many more. The climbing wall next to the reception area is the main attraction of the renovated office which has hanging ropes attached to it. Nicolas Darveau-Garneau, the General Manager of Google Quebec states that it’s important for an office to have a great atmosphere as people work really hard.
Besides the designers, Darveau-Garneau is also looking forward to build a sales team to work with the local businesses to get the most out of Googl’s business tools and advertising products. According to Darveau-Garneau, Canada ranks first in the world when it comes to using the web. But the companies do not make proper use of the web to communicate with their customers and hence they want to help these companies for the same.
