Additionally, terms of the deal have not been revealed, but both companies announced the acquisition in a pair of blog posts that were posted Monday.
Twitter’s company blog echoed the announcement:
Today we are welcoming a very talented group from Posterous to Twitter. This team has built an innovative product that makes sharing across the web and mobile devices simple—a goal we share. Posterous engineers, product managers and others will join our teams working on several key initiatives that will make Twitter even better.
Posterous Spaces will remain up and running without disruption. We’ll give users ample notice if we make any changes to the service. For users who would like to back up their content or move to another service, we’ll share clear instructions for doing so in the coming weeks.
We’re always looking for talented people who have the passion and personality to join Twitter. Acquisitions have given us people and technology that have enabled us to more quickly build a better Twitter for you.
Moreover, Posterous as a platform especially farms-out itself to mobile blogging. While posts can be added using the website’s rich text editor, posts — including those containing pictures, video, or documents — can also be added via email. The acquisition brings Posterous’ engineers, product managers and other employees into the flock with plans for them to work “on several key initiatives that will make Twitter even better.”
Posterous writes on the Posterous blog:
The opportunities in front of Twitter are exciting, and we couldn’t be happier about bringing our team’s expertise to a product that reaches hundreds of millions of users around the globe. Plus, the people at Twitter are genuinely nice folks who share our vision for making sharing simpler.

Finally, we’d like to offer thanks to all of our users, especially those who have been with Posterous since day one. The last four years have been an amazing journey. Your encouragement, praise and criticism have made us better. Thanks for that. We look forward to building great things for you over at Twitter.
Posterous, founded in 2008, is a simple blogging platform, known for its mobile app. The company’s whole objective in life is to “help you share easier,” the company has said–somewhat reflecting the goal of Twitter, whose entire platform is built upon users sharing short bursts of content and pictures. Although Twitter recently integrated photo and video support, it still lacks the ability to share photo galleries. Posterous also includes the ability to add posts by email.
Sachin Agarwal, founder and CEO of Posterous said in a post on Posterous Spaces that he will be a product manager at Twitter, but did not specify his area of work.
Among other things, if you are redirecting your domain or subdomain to Posterous, the service will continue to point to your Posterous Space, with no need for you to make any changes. As for those who wish to backup content from Posterous or transfer your content to another service, the company will be providing instructions on how to do so in the coming weeks.
