Google+ Adds Kitty, Puppy Mask Features For Hangouts

March 5, 2012 0

Mountain View, California — Relentlessly striving to cater its vast users’ with attractive features, as its Google+ Hangouts are steadily capturing audience since it trumps every other site when it comes to interaction through videos, has launched a brand-new killer feature that now lets you wear virtual masks in Google+ Hangouts.

The incredible Google+ team has announced some new special effects for Google+ to go along with the mustaches and reindeer antlers that you have been able to add to your face in real-time during a Hangout:

And we hope you are excitedly waiting for this one, because it is a real doozy. It beats the absolute crap out of a Skype conversation, and has fun effects like Apple should be creating for Facetime.

To be fair, Google has allowed users to incorporate the use of funny, digitized props into its Google+ Hangouts for some time now. And the latest special effects features are super cool since they are set on top of the video and track your face.

The latest upgrade, now allows users to superimpose funny little masks over your faces and turn yourself into a cat, a dog or express your inner angel or devil with halo or horns.

Google product manager Amit Fulay posted on Google+:

Hanging out with friends and family using Google+ Hangouts is always fun.

In the past, we’ve introduced effects like mustache, reindeer and antlers. Today, we’re experimenting with a few more. Just click on the new mask image icon to cycle through these new effects. (see screenshot)

We hope you have as much fun as our designer +Beck Park and engineer +Jeremy Ng had in creating these. #googleplusupdate

Note: the effects are being rolled out, so if you dont see it at first, give it a try in a few minutes.

Google+ also offers mask effects in its creative kit for photos. So, for example, you can put a Jason Voorhees mask on your dog:

Have you tried it out yourself? To try out the new effects simply start a hangout and click on the little dog face icon in the top left. Have Fun!

That said, Google+ is certainly multiplying its: February figures reported by Google CEO Larry Page put the company’s social media network at 90 million users, up 50 million since October of 2011. Google is still mum about just how many active users are engaging with Google+ versus those who simply sign up and never come back (or drop off after a period of time).
