$130000 P.A. FOR AN IIT-DELHI STUDENT: FACEBOOK

December 5, 2011 0

Once again the social networking giant has come to the campus in India and has recruited students, but the highlight of the selection was a 21-year-old Ankur Dahiya. Ankur is a student of computer science engineering and his annual salary package is around Rs 65 lakh ($130000 approx). This seems to be a non-hesitantly step from Facebook and sheer talent has been chosen.

This is not the first time, Facebook has tried to make rounds around for a campus recruitment in India. Last year even Facebook came up with huge investments to recruit students, but failed to get in any. However this time they have zeroed on Ankur, who is from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi. The package is even handsomely noted. In the years to come, one can definitely expect a few more recruits from the Indian territory, which would without any doubt would have a bigger price tag.

Facebook has set a bench mark, which no other recruiter would be close to or willing to pay for an IIT student, who still bares a fresher tag. Interestingly, IIT-Delhi has seen the social networking giant recruiting a student for the first time. Last year, they had hired a student from IIT-Chennai last year.

Ankur, who belongs to Rohtak in Haryana said, “Ever since I heard Facebook would come to recruit, I wanted to get in. It was a long-standing dream. My parents were obviously elated.”

But many more might add into the list soon, as Facebook has scouted for talent at many other IIT campuses in India this year. Last year, the recruitment was quite lonely as only two of the students were selected. The IIT students would even be hoping that a number of recruits take place this year

Again, Facebook was quite late in earning a recruiter tag last year and it seems Facebook made sure that they get that tag before many others. Accordingly, this time around they were in the first batch of employers.

Ankur would be posted in Palo Alto, California as a programmer after he finishes his course next year.

Talking about the interview, Ankur, whose all-India rank in the IIT-JEE exam was 56 said, “The interview and the test were completely subject-based. They asked me to do some encoding and programming.”
