Mountain View, California — Another day, another change — Google owned world’s most popular video sharing website — YouTube has rolled out a refurbished version of its Music page, trailing in the footsteps of its shows and movies pages.

Long since, YouTube has been popularly branded as just a place for the occasional piece of illegal content. Nevertheless, that is no longer the case with a new section of the newly updated page with all of the uploaded music videos and organizes them into neatly sorted categories, demonstrating the most viewed music videos, as well as special promotions, curated playlists, and unsigned talent. The latter of which has been under the onus of the content providers and users to curate.

YouTube’s new music video collection page.

According to the announcement:

“If you are looking for easier ways to discover music on YouTube, just start here. Our revamped music page — part of a makeover that started with our shows and movies pages–exhibits the most viewed music videos, special promotions, curated playlists, unsigned talent and gives you the ability to create on-the-fly mixes.”

Users can also create their on mixes. “For example, in the mood for electronic beats? Just scroll down to that genre and click “play” for an instant playlist,” says YouTube Music Manager Michele Flannery.

There is nothing extraordinary here apart from the fact that users can drill down in any song to see a listing of other tracks by that artist, as well as other artists that might sound similar. On top of it all is a section for “today’s hits” which is a listing of the most popular music videos that have been played on the service; YouTube says this is updated every two hours.

The site is not just for music discovery, the service will soon help users find live music events through an “events near you” section in their area or music that their friends like, according to the company. Sounds very social-friendly.

Here is something that has been discovered a few million times over the past week:
