New York – In a fresh move to popularize its service across various devices, the folks over at Microsoft on Monday released an update for its native Skype app for the iPad with a slew of new features including better connectivity, adding money from within the app, and a new sidebar for recent conversations.

Say “hello” to friends and family with an instant message, voice or video call on Skype for free. There is so much you can do, right from the palm of your hand. Redmond, Wash.-based company has rolled out an update for its native Skype app, especially for Apple’s iPad with a large number of new addition and features. The first addition is of course the most noteworthy.

Skype will now automatically reconnect whenever your call drops when you are in an area with poor reception, whether that is over Wi-Fi or your mobile network, as well as allows account top-ups directly from the app.

Next up, the new feature that has been added seamlessly allows you to add money to your Skype account right from the app itself. This is particularly useful for those users who never access the app on any other device, but unfortunately the feature is currently only limited to five countries: Estonia, France, Sweden, the UK, and the US. If you live outside these countries, you still have to update from the web.

Last but not least, there is a new recent conversations sidebar has also been added, accessible by simply swiping from the left side of the screen. This keeps the conversations going in a much more user friendly way while keeping the app itself as sleek as it always was. To open it, just swipe from the left of he screen.

The full Skype for iPad version 4.5 changelog is as follows:

  • Skype automatically reconnects a dropped call when your wifi or mobile network reception is poor.
  • Add money to your Skype account directly from the app to send SMS or call mobiles and landlines worldwide. Currently available in United States, United Kingdom, France, Sweden and Estonia.
  • A simple swipe from the left of the screen opens your recent conversations in a new sidebar.
  • General fixes: One-to-one chats now appear in the correct order.

As usual, with minor bug fixes are a part of the update game, and this latest update from Skype is no different. This fix apparently addresses Skype’s random issue of not displaying conversations in the correct order.

Skype for iPad is free and you can download the new app directly from the Apple App Store.
