New Adobe Flash-based Rich Internet Application (RIA) software is meant to be a simpler and more flexible for Managing and Reading eBooks and Other Digital Publications.

Adobe Systems Incorporated is scheduled to release a public beta of Adobe Digital Editions, a Rich Internet Application (RIA) built from the ground up for digital publishing at its Max 2006 customer conference in Las Vegas.

Warner exec says talks about content rights that began with YouTube will continue with its new owner.
Time Warner CEO Dick Parsons is negotiating with YouTube to deal with the problem of videos that infringe his company's copyrights, and now that Google's buying the video-sharing site, Parsons says he is going to move those negotiations to his company's partner, which owns a 5 percent stake in Time Warne's AOL unit.

“You can assume we are in negotiations with YouTube and that those negotiations will be kicked up to the Google level in the hope that we can get to some acceptable position,” Parsons told The Guardian.

Palm and Google Collaborate to Bring Google Maps to Treo Smartphones

Time Warner Sells AOL UK in Final Overhaul of European Ops

Carphone Warehouse Group has agreed to buy Time Warner unit AOL's UK Internet access business for 370 million pounds (US$689 million) in cash, transforming the mobile phone retailer into Britain's third biggest broadband provider, the two companies announced in a joint statement to the London Stock Exchange.

The all-cash transaction will give Carphone Warehouse an extra 1.5 million high-speed Internet access customers to add to an existing base of 625,000, propelling it up to third place in the broadband league table behind BT and NTL.

MTV has inked a deal with Baidu.com, China's largest search engine, to distribute music videos via the Internet in China, boosting the music video channel's exposure in a market where regulation has limited its presence.

MTV Networks will share music videos and shows with China Internet search leader Baidu.com in an attempt to reap advertising revenue in the world's second-largest Internet market, the two companies said.

Amazon Scales Back Key Features on A9.Com

Amazon.com has discontinued several distinctive features of its search engine, A9.com, including a search history that recorded all the searches ever made by a user, and mapping technology that captured street-level images of businesses in the largest U.S. cities, that were among its most distinctive features, the company confirmed.

The A9 Toolbar, maps, Yellow Pages and a personalized diary and bookmark features are no longer available, a spokesman said.

Apple to Offer Movies On iTunes

Apple Computer, which pioneered the online distribution of music and television shows, appears poised to jump into the movie business.

Apple's chief executive, Steve Jobs, was set to announce the new products at a special media event recently held in San Francisco, that it will soon begin selling movie downloads from Walt Disney Co.'s film studios, aiming to turn its iTunes online music store into a one-stop shop for digital entertainment.

The invitations sent last week had declared simply "It is Showtime," triggering an avalanche of speculation that Apple would soon shake up the distribution of movies as much as it did music with its iTunes store and iPod players.
