'CATALYST' APPLE HAMMERED YET AGAIN, THIS TIME FOR EBOOK PRICING

On Tuesday, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California got yet another case registered against Apple. The lawsuit is in regards to the fixing of e-book prices. Apple has been targeted by a Seattle Law firm named Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro. The company's managing director, Steve Berman said that the tech giant was using its tablet and smartphone dominance factor to fix prices for the e-books. Apple however was not the lone company against whom the nationwide class-action lawsuit was filed. There were five top publishers too to accompany the tech giant. These publishers were Simon & Schuster, Penguin Group, Macmillan Publishers, Macmillan Publishers and HarperCollins Publishers.

FACEBOOK SHUTS INMATE ACCOUNTS

Facebook plans to restrict prisoners from the social networking site as it was reported that the social networking giant has been planning to shut numerous inmates' accounts. These inmates as for now have been able to make a status update, post photos and even parties have been organized with the help of smartphones which have smuggled their way into the jail. Prisoners' rights group may not be in favor of this step, but crime victims and victims' rights group have been only applauding this action.

On Wednesday, a day after Twitter rolled out its photo-sharing service which poses direct competition to TwitPic, TwitPic founder Noah Everett announced the launch of Heello, a startup he has been working on for a year, reported Venture Beat.

NYPD TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO NAB SOCIAL MENACES

The ubiquitous and ever-popular social media has gained one more fan – the New York Police Department. On Wednesday, NYPD declared that it would be setting up a Social Media Unit to track boastful criminals who rave about their activities on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, reported NY Daily News. The Unit will, in the words of NYPD, “mine social media, looking for information about troublesome house parties, gang showdowns and other potential mayhem.”

Online influence determiner Klout has doubled the number of its services adding Blogger, Flickr, Instagram, Last.fm and Tumblr to its scoring system, reported TechCrunch.

Joe Fernandez, Klout CEO told Mashable, “The networks we launched today were chosen to give the Klout score a more holistic view of influence. APPLE SLICES SAMSUNG FROM THE EUROPEAN UNION

The first round of the Apple-Samsung battle was won by Apple with a German Court ordering a preliminary injunction, on the grounds of an alleged infringement of Apple's iPad-related Community design no. 000181607-0001, against the distribution of Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the European Union, except the Netherlands.

While this preliminary injunction takes immediate effect in Germany, it could be a while before it becomes effective in the other countries.
